2009 Conference Evaluation

As a result of this conference I will......

  • Try new literacy ideas throughout the curriculum
  • Use the ‘Go Chart’ more effectively
  • Continue to use ‘Brain Gym’ as an effective tool for learning
  • Re-energize my staff as their Literacy Instructional Leader
  • Incorporate new and effective strategies

Workshops I enjoyed were..... (Why?)

  • ‘I See What You Mean’: practical, super ideas
  • Both ‘Readers and Writers’ Workshops: interactive and engaging
  • ‘Centres for the Junior Teacher’: as a new teacher, I found it hard to implement and offer a variety of centres, this workshop offered ways to do both.
  • ‘Writing Rocks’: enthusiastic speaker, Intermediate Grades focus
  • ‘Non-Fiction Writing’: excellent speaker, will implement the ideas and strategies presented

The facilities and food were....

  • Great! Healthy food choices too!
  • Excellent on both counts. Bravo!
  • Workshop rooms clean and bright.
  • Lunch was great.
  • Appreciated that vegetarian choices were labelled

What critical issues would you like included in next year’s Conference?

  • Differentiated Instruction
  • Visual/Pictorial Literacy and  Tech/Computer Literacy
  • Impact of Assessment on Teachers and Learners
  • Follow-up to Dr. Jean Clinton’s address: Importance of Social and Emotional Readiness in school- aged children
  • Play Focus for the Early Years

Can you identify possible topics for panel discussions?

  • Challenges of Balanced Literacy in the Intermediate Classroom
  • The Importance of Play in the Early Years
  • The Implications of Poverty on Learning
  • Guided Reading/Literacy and Numeracy in K (the ‘Academic’ focus) versus Social/Emotional/Play Focus
  • The Tyranny of Cognitive Seduction
